Locking and Unlocking Mechanisms

Locking Mechanism (Staking)

The Staking module enables the locking of ZIG tokens. When tokens are delegated to a validator, they are "bonded" to the network. While bonded, these tokens cannot be traded or moved, but they earn rewards for the holder.

Security Enforcement (Slashing)

To protect the network, the Slashing module penalizes validators for misconduct. If a validator double-signs a block or experiences prolonged downtime, a portion of their locked (staked) ZIG tokens—and those of their delegators—can be permanently removed (slashed).

Unlocking and Vesting

While specific historical unlock dates for private or team allocations are not detailed in the current technical documentation, the network follows a decentralized process for unbonding:

• Unbonding Period: When a user decides to stop staking, the tokens enter an "unbonding" state. During this period, the tokens remain locked and do not earn rewards, typically lasting several days or weeks (depending on governance parameters) before they become liquid again.
• Governance-Controlled Unlocks: The community pool and treasury funds are unlocked only through successful governance votes, ensuring that large-scale token movements are transparent and approved by the community.
