Lekker Capital CIO Quinn Thompson says the market just lived through a rare “positioning rinse” that has left crypto consensus facing the wrong direction at precisely the wrong time. “There’s about 1, at most 2, times per year where I feel like I’m seeing things at 180 degree odds with the crypto twitter consensus,” Thompson wrote on October 20, pointing to prior episodes in September 2023, September 2024, and February 2025 as similar inflection points for sentiment. “I am using the below 3 tweets to summarize consensus,” he added, linking to contemporaneous bearish posts from @qwqiao, @blknoiz06, and @cburniske to frame the prevailing mood. Why The Crypto Bull Run Highly Likely Isn’t Over Thompson’s core claim is straightforward and deliberately contrarian: the October 10 open-interest flush was not a reason to turn medium-term bearish on Bitcoin and Ethereum, but a capitulation that typically precedes strong forward returns. “Current setup for BTC and ETH is rare – largest positioning rinse in history of crypto while standing on doorstep of macro goldilocks. 10/10 liquidation cleared more leverage in $ and % of OI than entire Jan–Apr ’25 period. Opportunity ahead is similar to pre-Trump victory ’24,” he said. Is The Crypto Bull Run Over? Lekker Capital CIO Warns ‘Don’t Miss The Forest’

2025/10/24 06:00

Why The Crypto Bull Run Highly Likely Isn’t Over

Thompson’s core claim is straightforward and deliberately contrarian: the October 10 open-interest flush was not a reason to turn medium-term bearish on Bitcoin and Ethereum, but a capitulation that typically precedes strong forward returns.

The message is not a victory lap, he emphasized: “It’s silly to even have to say this but the referenced tweets are not about being wrong or right – simply references to sentiment… Sometimes it’s better to observe more, love more and say less.”

The positioning argument rests on a simple historical heuristic: selling “after” a deep deleveraging event is usually a poor trade once forced sellers have been flushed. “Anyone want to run the math on what percentage of -30–40% open interest crypto liquidation events was it a good idea to get bearish AFTER it happened?” Thompson asked

He made his hypothesis explicit: “Getting medium time frame bearish, e.g. 40/80/120 days forward, after a large scale liquidation event is a poor risk/reward the vast majority of the time, especially if it is of the magnitude of the 10/10 event.” Market veteran Alex Krüger and Framework Ventures co-founder Vance Spencer each replied “0%,” a succinct endorsement of that probabilistic view.

Beyond positioning, Thompson ties the crypto setup to a macro backdrop he repeatedly characterizes as “goldilocks.” In late summer, he and Felix Jauvin discussed gold’s bull case on Forward Guidance; that thesis, Thompson says, crystallized when a widely circulated image showed Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Narendra Modi clasping hands at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

“When this picture leaked it was nail in the coffin and the most obvious buy gold signal you could get after its 4–5 month consolidation,” he wrote, arguing that Bitcoin now sits in an analogous posture after a ~10-month consolidation.

At press time, BTC traded at $109,101.

Ethereum Set to Debut ‘Key to Layer-2 Scaling’ as Fusaka Upgrade Clears Final Test

The post Ethereum Set to Debut ‘Key to Layer-2 Scaling’ as Fusaka Upgrade Clears Final Test appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. In brief Ethereum’s Fusaka upgrade has passed its final testnet and is set to launch on the mainnet around December 3. The update will lower transaction costs and improve efficiency by expanding blob storage and implementing PeerDAS, which boosts layer-2 scalability. Developers have said the change could increase blob space by over 400%, marking a major step toward faster, cheaper Ethereum transactions. Ethereum’s latest overhaul is all systems go for deployment.  The network’s upcoming Fusaka upgrade successfully went live on a third and final testnet Tuesday afternoon—meaning it is now greenlit to go live on the Ethereum mainnet in just a few weeks.  Fusaka had previously deployed successfully on the Holesky and Sepolia testnets earlier this month, before going live on the Hoodi network today. It is currently penciled in to debut on the Ethereum mainnet on or around December 3.  Ethereum’s next major upgrade, Fusaka, is now live on the Hoodi network! ✅ Fusaka mainnet activation is scheduled for December 3rd. Fusaka introduces multiple EIPs to improve scalability, strengthen security, and reduce costs. The upgrade will unlock the next phase of rollup… pic.twitter.com/VQkosIouZQ — Consensys.eth (@Consensys) October 28, 2025 The software update seeks to cut transaction costs on Ethereum and boost the network’s efficiency by further streamlining the process by which it samples and verifies data from layer-2 networks. It also includes multiple proposals designed to improve Ethereum’s user experience. These improvements build on innovations introduced in prior Ethereum updates. The network’s 2024 Dencun upgrade introduced blobs, which significantly lowered layer-2 network gas fees by allowing data from such chains to be stored temporarily, as opposed to permanently. Fusaka will dramatically increase the amount of space reserved on every Ethereum transaction block for blobs, thereby making the innovation even more impactful. UK Looks to US to Adopt More Crypto-Friendly Approach

The post UK Looks to US to Adopt More Crypto-Friendly Approach appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. The UK and US are reportedly preparing to deepen cooperation on digital assets, with Britain looking to copy the Trump administration’s crypto-friendly stance in a bid to boost innovation.  UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent discussed on Tuesday how the two nations could strengthen their coordination on crypto, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.  The discussions also involved representatives from crypto companies, including Coinbase, Circle Internet Group and Ripple, with executives from the Bank of America, Barclays and Citi also attending, according to the report. The agreement was made “last-minute” after crypto advocacy groups urged the UK government on Thursday to adopt a more open stance toward the industry, claiming its cautious approach to the sector has left the country lagging in innovation and policy.  Source: Rachel Reeves Deal to include stablecoins, look to unlock adoption Any deal between the countries is likely to include stablecoins, the Financial Times reported, an area of crypto that US President Donald Trump made a policy priority and in which his family has significant business interests. The Financial Times reported on Monday that UK crypto advocacy groups also slammed the Bank of England’s proposal to limit individual stablecoin holdings to between 10,000 British pounds ($13,650) and 20,000 pounds ($27,300), claiming it would be difficult and expensive to implement. UK banks appear to have slowed adoption too, with around 40% of 2,000 recently surveyed crypto investors saying that their banks had either blocked or delayed a payment to a crypto provider.  Many of these actions have been linked to concerns over volatility, fraud and scams. The UK has made some progress on crypto regulation recently, proposing a framework in May that would see crypto exchanges, dealers, and agents treated similarly to traditional finance firms, with…
