As enterprises look for practical AI agents for enterprise operations, Alibaba is rolling out accio work as a new way to support global SMB workflows.

Alibaba introduces plug and play enterprise AI agents

Chinese tech giant Alibaba International has unveiled Accio Work, a plug-and-play enterprise AI tool that gives businesses a no-code agentic team to support day-to-day operations. The launch reflects a broader shift toward human-AI work teams as companies attempt to streamline complex, resource-intensive tasks.

Accio Work is the latest evolution of Accio, an AI-powered search engine first introduced by Alibaba.com in November 2024. Last November, Alibaba rolled out Accio Agent as a global trade assistant aimed at SMBs with limited time, staff, and budget. However, Accio Work goes further by packaging a pre-configured team of AI agents tailored to the full SMB lifecycle.

That lifecycle ranges from market analysis and supplier sourcing to ongoing inventory monitoring. Moreover, the new tool is explicitly designed for non-technical enterprises, allowing them to orchestrate multiple agents without writing code or building custom AI infrastructure.

From automated compliance to sourcing and operations

Accio Work equips enterprises with capabilities for both online businesses and physical retail operations. Entrepreneurs can deploy AI agents to manage automated compliance solutions, including tax refund handling and customs documentation for cross-border trade. This directly targets long-standing friction points in international commerce.

Moreover, the platform supports autonomous sourcing, enabling AI agents to respond to requests for quotations and negotiate with suppliers on behalf of SMBs. That said, Accio Work also focuses on operational integration, helping businesses link these agents with marketing automation tools and other existing systems.

In practice, this means companies can delegate recurring tasks to agents while retaining human oversight for strategic decisions. As a result, Alibaba is positioning the product as a step toward ai agents for enterprise that can handle structured, repeatable workflows rather than just ad hoc queries.

Competition and context in the AI agent market

Accio Work arrives in a market where multiple vendors are racing to provide enterprise ai agents for different verticals. Generative AI provider Anthropic, for example, offers enterprises a coordinated team of agents through its Claude Cowork tool. However, Alibaba is focusing specifically on SMB trade and operational workflows.

According to Lian Jye Su, an analyst at Omdia, a division of Informa Tech, Accio Work is “able to give them support from an agentic AI standpoint, considering how advanced agentic AI is right now.” Moreover, Su stressed that the platform moves beyond simple prompting and general-purpose chat interfaces.

He added that Accio Work enables enterprises to automate specific processes and validate payment systems, which is critical in high-volume international trade. In that sense, the new product reflects Alibaba’s effort to turn experimental AI into production-ready tooling for commerce.

Focus on Chinese enterprises and cross border trade

While Alibaba continues to advance the broader Accio suite, its primary target for Accio Work remains local Chinese enterprises. Many of these firms struggle to conduct international business outside China because domestic and overseas systems differ significantly. This includes everything from payment infrastructure to logistics platforms.

Su noted that “being able to help enterprises bridge the gap, that’s where the added value is.” Moreover, he suggested that some of Alibaba’s international customers may also benefit as they expand abroad. Here, cross border business automation becomes a central part of the value proposition.

For example, an SMB based in Southeast Asia could use the full accio work stack to manage trade with partners in another region, even without language expertise or in-depth knowledge of local regulations. However, the emphasis remains on augmenting human teams rather than fully replacing them.

Overall, Alibaba is using Accio Work to push AI agents deeper into the fabric of international trade, simplifying compliance, sourcing, and operations for resource-constrained SMBs while keeping humans in control of strategic choices.
