USDC giant Circle has announced a big move to bring the top leading tech expertise into its company. It has added Kirk Koenigsbauer, a longtime Microsoft veteran, to its board of directors.

The move, flagged by CEO Jeremy Allaire on X, comes at a pivotal moment for Circle as it is transitioning into one of crypto’s most systemically important infrastructure players. The company is not becoming just a stablecoin issuer, but a foundational layer for onchain dollars.

His appointment brings the board up to nine members, who are led by co-founder, Chairman and CEO Jeremy Allaire and includes co-founder Sean Neville. The broader Circle board has other independent directors t00 – from former CFTC Chairman Heath Terbert,  Stripe SVP Danielle Spiegel, Former Minister for Finance, Ireland Michael Noonan to Circle CFO Jeremy Fox-Geen himself.

Interestingly, Circle’s Governance Charter 2025 mentions that Board appointments at Circle Internet Financial are led by its Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, which identifies candidates based on the company’s evolving strategic needs.
