GOP senator plays video of Republican's violent rhetoric during DHS confirmation hearing

Sen. Rand Paul played a video compilation during Sen. Markwayne Mullin's confirmation hearing for Department of Homeland Security secretary on Wednesday, featuring clips of Mullin exhibiting "low impulse control" and "machismo" threats of violence.

Mullin, Trump's nominee to replace ousted Secretary Kristi Noem, refused to apologize for past remarks calling Paul a "freaking snake" and claiming to understand why someone assaulted him in 2017.

Paul pressed Mullin for an apology, stating he hadn't heard words like "apologize," "regret," or "I misspoke."

Mullin remained defiant.

The video montage included footage of Mullin threatening to physically fight someone in a Senate hearing and endorsing the idea of lawmakers engaging in physical duels.

Paul chairs the Senate Homeland Security Committee overseeing Mullin's confirmation, giving him significant leverage in questioning the nominee's fitness to lead an agency plagued by violent immigration enforcement controversies under previous leadership.
