Taylor Swift’s latest single “Opalite” surges to No. 1 on a handful of Billboard charts it has never ruled before. The singer-songwriter collects another leader on multiple tallies, including the Billboard Hot 100 and two of the chart company’s three pop radio rankings. “Opalite” marks an important new smash for the superstar, one which helps her make history across a variety of rosters as it finally dominates.

Swift first led the charge on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, one of three tallies published weekly by Billboard that focus on the most successful tunes across several subgenres within the top 40 pop space, back in March 2013. “I Knew You Were Trouble” from her album Red – which helped her bridge the gap from her country roots to her pop future – spent one frame ruling and kicked off a historic winning streak.

Taylor Swift Ties Maroon 5’s Record With a New No. 1

Now that “Opalite” has climbed as high as possible, Swift ties the all-time record for the most champions on the Adult Pop Airplay list. Swift is on the same level as Maroon 5, and the pop band is now forced to share an honor it has held for quite some time.

Unlike Swift, Maroon 5 has not added to its total in more than half a decade. The last time the Grammy-winning outfit scored a new leader was in December 2019, when “Memories” finally lifted to the top space. That single would tie “Girls Like You,” a collaboration with Cardi B, as the group’s longest-running winner, as both cuts held on to the highest rung for 14 weeks.

At the same time that “Opalite” leads the Adult Pop Airplay chart, it also steps up to the summit on the Pop Airplay roster. On that list, “Opalite” also becomes Swift’s fifteenth career leader. Unlike on the Adult Pop Airplay tally, however, when it comes to the Pop Airplay chart, Swift faces no competition. “Opalite” furthers her lead as the artist with the most champions of all time. Rihanna, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars, and Justin Bieber all jointly claim the second-most rulers, with 11 apiece.

Of the three pop radio rankings published by Billboard, “Opalite” has yet to run the show on one: the Adult Contemporary list. This week, as “Opalite” becomes the No. 1 most-heard track on both the Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay rosters, the song slips outside the highest tier, dipping to No. 11.

“Opalite” has topped out at No. 10 on the Adult Contemporary list, though it is one of the slowest-moving charts published by Billboard, so it may be only a matter of time before the single reaches a new peak.

Taylor Swift Claims Multiple Top 10s on the Pop Radio Charts

Swift fills two spaces inside the top 10 on all three pop charts. She bookends the Pop Airplay tally, appearing at No. 1 with “Opalite” and No. 10 with “The Fate of Ophelia.” That first The Life of a Showgirl single is steady at No. 7 on the Adult Pop Airplay list, where it has previously led the charge, while it simultaneously climbs to a new high of No. 3 on the Adult Contemporary ranking.
