PENGU Sinks 73% Over 5 Months With Momentum Still Pointing Lower

The Bit Journal.

Pudgy Penguins (PENGU) is still a top-watched meme token, but the last few months have felt like walking uphill in sand. On December 24, 2025, it traded around $0.0086, down 3.44% over 24 hours, with roughly $107,026,610 in daily volume and a market cap near $540,624,569. Circulating supply is about 62,860,396,090 PENGU. Against USDT, it was down about 19.07% over 30 days.

Why the PENGU slide has not eased up

The bigger headline is the trend. A recent market read put PENGU around $0.032 in August versus about $0.0086 now, a 73.5% drawdown in five months. In the same period, Pudgy Penguins NFT sales volume was reported down 31.4% over the past month, which helps explain why the token has struggled to keep a bid. When NFT activity softens, the token usually loses some of the attention that fuels meme rallies.

News flow has not helped sentiment either. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said it filed fraud charges against Shima Capital Management LLC and its owner, Yida Gao, alleging false and misleading statements while raising more than $169.9 million from investors. Even when it is not a direct claim about a token, traders often treat enforcement headlines as a reason to reduce exposure across anything tied to the same orbit.

There is also a brighter, mainstream angle in the background. The NHL has highlighted Pudgy Penguins in its Winter Classic fan activations, including mascot appearances and interactive experiences. Brand reach can matter over time, but markets tend to price the chart first and the story second.

What the chart is saying right now

On the technical side, structure remains bearish. One long-term view flagged a bearish break on December 15 when PENGU slipped below $0.0099, and it noted that the $0.009 area that mattered earlier in 2025 has been lost again. OBV was described as steadily declining, a simple sign that buying pressure has not been convincing. On-chain flows did show tokens moving off exchanges, but those outflows were weaker than earlier in 2025 and did not stop the October slide.

Momentum studies echo that caution. Another recent analysis described PENGU inside a descending channel and below the 20, 50, 100, and 200 EMAs, with selling pressure still dominant. It cited sell volume of 681.35 million and a Directional Movement Index positive reading near 14.16. Whales did show interest near the lows, including a reported withdrawal of 272,201,182 PENGU worth about $2.52 million, but that alone has not flipped the trend.

Key levels traders are mapping

For levels, $0.00855 is the near-term line many technicians are watching. If that gives way, recent commentary pointed to $0.0054 and $0.0039 as the next potential support zones from earlier in 2025. Any recovery case likely starts with PENGU reclaiming $0.01 and pushing above the 20-day EMA area around $0.0104, which was highlighted as a danger line while price stays below it.

Conclusion

PENGU has enough liquidity and brand awareness to stay relevant, but the tape is still heavy. Until the token holds above $0.01 and demand shows up in a sustained way, downside levels remain the market’s base case, with $0.00855 as the immediate pressure point and $0.0054 to $0.0039 as deeper supports. This is market commentary, not financial advice.

(Photo by Paul Natkin/Getty Images) Getty Images Singer Lou Gramm has a vivid memory of recording the ballad “Waiting for a Girl Like You” at New York City’s Electric Lady Studio for his band Foreigner more than 40 years ago. Gramm was adding his vocals for the track in the control room on the other side of the glass when he noticed a beautiful woman walking through the door. “She sits on the sofa in front of the board,” he says. “She looked at me while I was singing. And every now and then, she had a little smile on her face. I’m not sure what that was, but it was driving me crazy. “And at the end of the song, when I’m singing the ad-libs and stuff like that, she gets up,” he continues. “She gives me a little smile and walks out of the room. And when the song ended, I would look up every now and then to see where Mick [Jones] and Mutt [Lange] were, and they were pushing buttons and turning knobs. They were not aware that she was even in the room. So when the song ended, I said, ‘Guys, who was that woman who walked in? She was beautiful.’ And they looked at each other, and they went, ‘What are you talking about? We didn’t see anything.’ But you know what? I think they put her up to it. Doesn’t that sound more like them?” “Waiting for a Girl Like You” became a massive hit in 1981 for Foreigner off their album 4, which peaked at number one on the Billboard chart for 10 weeks and…
