SENATOR Erwin T. Tulfo on Wednesday filed before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office new grave oral defamation charges against two of the 18 alleged bagmen, lawyer Levito D. Baligod, and former lawmaker Michael T. Defensor following allegations made against him at the June 16 flood control press conference.
In an 18-page complaint-affidavit, Mr. Tulfo cited the claims made by two of ex-Rep. Elizaldy S. Co’s alleged bagmen named Jeron Valderama and Bernard Gumban alleging that he received luggage containing “loads of cash” linked to the flood control scandal.
“I do not have a flood control [project]. You can check the papers of the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways), even the Cabral files, my name is not there,” Mr. Tulfo told reporters after the filing.
“The public press conference of June 16, 2026 held in Mandaluyong City further amplified the damage previously caused by respondents’ constant media engagements in various fora,” the complaint read. “I cannot simply remain passive and act unaffected by these falsehoods.”
Mr. Baligod, however, stood by their claims, saying in a Facebook post, “We affirm our accusations against Erwin Tulfo. We’re not cowed by his new criminal complaint nor by any corrupt official.”
Mr. Tulfo on June 8 filed before the Pasay Regional Trial Court charges against Mr. Baligod and three bagmen, including Mr. Gumban, for allegations against him involving the luggage, human trafficking, and sexual trafficking. He denied all accusations. — Kaela Patricia B. Gabriel
