Key Insights:

  • Ripple has launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit to help developers build autonomous payment applications on the XRP Ledger.
  • The toolkit supports X402 payments, allowing AI agents to pay for APIs and digital services using XRP or RLUSD.
  • Phase one includes XRPL wallet and payment skills for Claude, plus an MCP server for accessing XRPL documentation.

Ripple has launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit to help developers build payment applications for autonomous AI agents. The toolkit supports transactions in XRP and Ripple USD, or RLUSD, on the XRP Ledger. It also adds X402 payment support for API access, computing services, and AI model use. The XRP news marks the first phase of Ripple’s plan to expand machine-to-machine payments on XRPL.

XRP News: Ripple Opens XRPL to Agent Payments

The new starter kit brings together documentation, wallet tools, payment functions, and developer guides for agent-based applications. Ripple designed the package for systems that can create wallets, check balances, send payments, and track transactions without repeated human input.

Phase One includes the XRPL Docs MCP Server, which gives compatible AI tools access to XRP Ledger documentation. Developers can connect platforms such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and custom agent frameworks to the server. These systems can then retrieve technical details while building or running XRPL applications.

The release also includes the XRPL Agent Wallet Skill and XRPL Payment Skill for Claude. These tools provide structured access to common ledger functions, including wallet creation and payment tracking. Ripple also published new guides on xrpl.org to help developers complete a testnet payment in less than 30 minutes.

X402 Adds Payments in XRP and RLUSD

The starter kit adds XRP Ledger support to the X402 protocol through work contributed by t54. X402 allows online services to request payment directly during an interaction. AI agents can now pay for API calls, model inference, computing power, and other digital services using XRP or RLUSD.

This XRP news development gives developers a direct payment route for applications that buy services automatically. An agent can receive a payment request, send funds, and confirm settlement through the ledger. The process removes the need for a person to approve each small transaction.

XRPL settles transactions in about three to five seconds and uses predictable fees. Ripple said agents can use those features to manage budgets and complete tasks without gas auctions or changing fee estimates. Each transaction either confirms or expires, giving applications a clear result before they proceed to the next action.

XRPL Features Support Controlled Agent Spending

Ripple positions XRPL as a payment network for applications that need fast settlement and defined transaction rules. The ledger supports XRP, RLUSD, and other issued assets. Its built-in decentralized exchange can also convert one supported asset into another during a payment.

Institutional users can apply escrow, multi-signing, deposit authorization, and trust lines to agent transactions. These controls can set spending limits, restrict counterparties, or require added approval for selected payments. Teams can use the ledger’s native functions instead of writing separate smart contracts for routine fund transfers.

This XRP news launch also focuses on transaction records and account controls. Developers can track payments with source tags and use ledger data for monitoring. XRPL has operated since 2012 without transaction rollbacks, while its protocol handles payment functions at the network level.

RLUSD Targets Stable Agent Transactions

RLUSD gives developers a dollar-denominated option for AI payment systems. Ripple issues the stablecoin on XRPL and backs it with dollar-based reserves. Agents can use RLUSD for invoices, service payments, payroll-related workflows, and transfers that need a stable unit of account.

The same XRP Ledger payment tools that move XRP can also process RLUSD. Agents may exchange RLUSD for other supported assets through the ledger’s decentralized exchange. This setup gives developers a choice between a stablecoin and XRP within the same payment environment.

Ripple plans to release the XRPL AI Starter Kit in stages. The company will use developer feedback and new agent payment use cases to guide later phases.
