Trump astonishes news hosts with major admission: 'In-kind contribution to Democrats'

MS NOW's Joe Scarborough and other panelists on "Morning Joe" were astonished by President Donald Trump's admission that he does not think about the impact of the Iran war on Americans' finances.

Fuel prices have hit a four-year high due to Irans closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the 79-year-old president was asked whether the affordability crisis motivated him to reach a deal to end the way, but Trump told reporters, 'I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation, I don’t think about anybody – I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon."

Scarborough and the others on set agreed those comments would certainly be featured in Democratic campaign ads this fall.

"I mean, really – come on," Scarborough said. "Like, Democrats are now going, 'Wait, is he, is he saying that openly?' I mean, this is this is the nightmare of the 'America first' [movement] who just said, 'Oh, we don't want to get involved in over, you know, worry about us here at home and all of the people.' Tulsi Gabbard that said, 'He will never get you into wars, he will worry about you, he will never do this, he will worry about you.' JD Vance the same – you can go down the list of everybody."

Nearly three in four Americans say they're concerned about inflation and the soaring cost of living, and Scarborough said Trump had shot himself in the foot on that issue.

"This isn't Democrats saying it, it's not independents – it's everybody saying it, man," Scarborough said. "Like 70 percent of Americans, 75 percent of Americans say everything costs too much. We're in a terrible situation, and the president picks that day to go out there while he's worried about golden arches and he's worried about golden ballrooms, and we find out about this Trump gold phone scam, well, you know, and he's worried about crypto and he's worried about their family making billions and billions of dollars and says, 'Yeah, well, you know, we're doing great, but we don't really care about how you and your family are doing.'"

Co-host Jonathan Lemire said the president had handed Democrats a weapon to use against Republicans seeking to hold onto their congressional majorities.

"I've never run for office," Lemire said, "but if I were to, and the standard bearer for my opponent's party were to say that, it would feature prominently in every campaign ad, and it certainly that was an in-kind contribution to Democrats there from President Trump, and you're right, we're going to go through it. The poll numbers are catastrophic for Trump and Republicans, particularly on his handling of the economy, which was supposed to be a strength."
