Supreme Court justices defy Trump's old tactics

President Donald Trump's longstanding intimidation tactic, effective during his real estate career and first term, has now become largely ineffective, according to New Republic analyst Ross Rosenfeld.

Trump attended Supreme Court oral arguments on birthright citizenship, having previously attacked justices as "dumb" and "embarrassments," yet the justices completely ignored his presence.

Rosenfeld wrote Trump's glare "failed to do the trick" as justices questioned ACLU attorney Cecilia Wang, prompting Trump to walk out.

While Trump successfully pressured NATO allies to increase defense spending during his first term, Rosenfeld argues Trump's "intimidation shtick" now falls flat because "no one of consequence is intimidated by him." Rosenfeld also warns, as Trump's intimidation tactics lose effectiveness, he may become more dangerous and described him as a "foolhardy buffoon" unwilling to admit defeat and prone to covering up failures.
