Key Takeaways

  • SHEIN is a Singapore-headquartered, China-founded online fashion retailer selling into roughly 160 countries.
  • Its model is on-demand: each item starts at 100 to 200 pieces, and reorders follow actual demand.
  • SHEINUSDT on MEXC is a USDT-settled perpetual futures contract tracking a reference price for one SHEIN share.
  • It gives long or short price exposure only — no shares, no votes, no dividends.

What SHEIN Actually Does

SHEIN Global Holdings Limited runs an online fashion and lifestyle marketplace shipping to customers in roughly 160 countries. Founded in China, now headquartered in Singapore. Most people know it as somewhere to buy a nine-dollar dress. A more useful description is that SHEIN is a demand-sensing system with a clothing catalogue attached.

The mechanism, in the company's own words: for each item, SHEIN produces an initial batch of only 100 to 200 pieces, then lets real customer response decide what suppliers make next. Traditional retailers forecast a season, commit to a large production run, and discount whatever they guessed wrong about. SHEIN inverts that. The forecast becomes a live test, and inventory risk on any single design is capped at a couple of hundred units.

That inversion is the whole business. It explains the catalogue size, because testing is cheap when batches are small. It explains the price points, because unsold stock is the largest hidden cost in apparel. It also explains why the model resists copying: it needs a supplier base willing to take 200-unit orders and reorder on short notice, a regional asset rather than software.

The physical side is more conventional. More than 90% of 2025 revenue came from goods held in central Chinese warehouses, with 18 warehouses in Europe handling regional distribution. Products are made in China, stored in China, and mailed abroad as individual low-value parcels. That structure is the source of both the cost advantage and the policy exposure discussed below.

Beyond the core brand, the group runs labels including Dazy, Romwe, MOTF and Glowmode, plus a marketplace layer where third-party sellers list alongside SHEIN's own product. Voting control stays concentrated with the four co-founders through a dual-class share structure that survives the listing.

On 2025 figures, revenue was roughly $42 billion and net profit roughly $2.1 billion. Europe and the UK together contributed about $14.8 billion, around 35% and the largest disclosed regional market, with the United States at roughly $10.1 billion. Net margin on those figures works out near 5%, which is why a few points of customs cost matter as much as they do.

Why Traders Are Watching SHEIN

Four structural reasons, none tied to any particular week's news.

The access gap was unusually wide and unusually long. SHEIN reached tens of billions in revenue while entirely private. Buying into a private company at that scale generally requires accredited-investor status, and qualifying buyers still face minimum ticket sizes and transfer restrictions. Listing narrows the gap without closing it: the shares trade in Hong Kong dollars under stock code 00625, which needs a broker with Hong Kong market access. For most people who use SHEIN as customers, ownership was never realistically available.

The private and public marks are far apart, and both are on the record. SHEIN raised near a $100 billion valuation in 2022 and around $64 billion in 2023, then came to Hong Kong at a fraction of that peak. Most companies keep their down rounds private. SHEIN's markdown is public, which makes it an unusually clean case study in how private marks and public pricing diverge.

The business has one dominant policy variable. SHEIN's cost structure was built around duty-free treatment of low-value parcels. The United States removed that exemption for shipments from China and Hong Kong in May 2025. The European Union scrapped its own €150 threshold on 1 July 2026, applying an interim duty of €3 per distinct product category in an affected parcel. Very few retailers this size carry margin sensitivity that concentrated in one line of customs policy, which makes the contract part trade-policy proxy rather than a pure retail bet.

Deceleration is measurable now, not speculative. Revenue growth fell from roughly 21% in 2024 to about 8% in 2025, then to roughly 1% in the first quarter of 2026 — a quarter that produced a net loss after a profit a year earlier. Whether the model still works once parcels are dutiable gets a fresh answer every reporting period.

Underneath all four sits a category question: does ultra-fast fashion survive contact with regulation? Temu, Amazon Haul and Inditex are all exposed to the answer, and SHEIN is the most direct listed proxy. Temu shares the same cross-border parcel structure and the same customs exposure. Inditex does not, which is why the two react differently to an identical rule change.

Trading SHEINUSDT on MEXC

SHEINUSDT is a perpetual futures contract on MEXC tracking a reference price for one SHEIN share, settled in USDT. Traders never hold, borrow, or deliver the underlying shares.

It trades around the clock, which is the practical reason to use it rather than the cash market: before listing the shares are restricted to accredited investors; afterwards they trade in Hong Kong dollars, during Hong Kong hours.

For current specifications — leverage, margin mode, trading rules — see the SHEINUSDT contract page.

How to Buy SHEIN (Going Long)

Traders who expect SHEIN's reference price to rise can open long exposure through the SHEINUSDT perpetual futures contract. Six steps:

  • 1. Fund your futures account. Transfer USDT from your spot wallet to your USDT-M futures account.
  • 2. Open the SHEINUSDT contract page. Search the ticker, or browse the futures market list.
  • 3. Set your margin mode and leverage. The available options are shown on the contract page.
  • 4. Choose your order type. A limit order sets your entry price and waits; a market order fills immediately at whatever the book offers.
  • 5. Enter your position size. Read the sizing note below before settling on a number.
  • 6. Click Open Long. Then set a take-profit and stop-loss on the open position.

Step 5 matters more than the entry price. The higher the leverage, the smaller the move that wipes out your margin.

Fuller instructions: MEXC's stock futures trading guide.

How to Short SHEIN

Traders who expect the reference price to fall can take short exposure through the same contract. This does not involve borrowing or selling the underlying shares. The trader opens a short position in a derivative linked to SHEIN's reference price.

Limit to name your entry price, market to fill immediately.
  • 5. Enter your position size. The same sizing logic applies in reverse.
  • 6. Click Open Short. Then set a take-profit and stop-loss.

Two things differ on the short side. Funding flows between longs and shorts depending on whether the contract trades above or below the reference price, so an open short can earn or pay it. Short losses have no ceiling.

SHEIN's particular short-side hazard is that the bear case is already well known. Tariff exposure, the valuation markdown and the open regulatory investigations have all been reported and are largely reflected in where the contract trades, so a short bets on further deterioration rather than on the market catching up.

What Changes After Listing

Once SHEIN lists, MEXC converts the pre-listing contract into a standard one, migrating positions and orders rather than force-settling them. Mechanics: Pre-IPO Futures vs. Standard Stock Futures.

Two consequences are specific to this listing. The underlying quotes in Hong Kong dollars while the contract settles in USDT, so a currency conversion sits between the reference price and the position. And the Hong Kong Stock Exchange runs a limited weekday session while the contract never stops, so the largest gaps will tend to cluster around the Hong Kong open rather than spreading evenly through the day.

One practical note. A leverage setting that felt conservative against a tight pre-listing price band is not necessarily conservative against the wider band a newly listed share requires.

Risks to Understand First

  • Liquidity and the low-liquidity period. MEXC splits the trading day into regular hours and a low-liquidity period. In that window slippage widens, index prices may pause, take-profit and stop-loss orders may go unfilled, and maximum leverage on new orders may be reduced.
  • Price uncertainty. No public share price exists before a listing, so the reference comes from a composite index, not a live quote.
  • Gap risk. News breaking while Hong Kong is shut arrives as a jump.
  • Contract terms can change. MEXC may adjust leverage caps, margin and funding rates. Check the contract page.
  • Regional availability. Stock futures are not offered in every jurisdiction.
  • Concentrated policy exposure. SHEIN's economics hinge on how two large markets treat low-value parcels. A rule change in either direction can reprice the company faster than any operating decision it makes, and those changes arrive on a legislative calendar rather than an earnings one.
