The Lagos Council of the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has announced a strategic partnership with Wema Bank to provide e-hailing drivers with tailored financial services.

This was disclosed in a statement by the State Chairman of the union, Comrade Azeez Jaiyesimi.

According to the chairman, some of the benefits the partnership will offer drivers include low-interest and CNG loans, income from car headrest adverts, and free POS service. Other benefits include access to quick loans and SME loans, loans for solar inverters, discounted business name registration, and car insurance and renewal.

It also includes the issuance of AUATON customised ATM debit cards that serve as ID cards and access to school fees loans.

We are excited to announce that AUATON and Wema Bank have partnered to simplify financial services for all AUATON members. This collaboration aims to enhance our banking experience and provide greater accessibility to financial resources,” the statement reads.

The benefits of the partnership are available to union members.

To register, drivers need to follow the AUATON Wema Bank Registration link and follow the prompt. They should also provide the following information: BVN (Bank Verification Number), NIN (National Identification Number), Email Address and Phone Number.

However, customers of Wema Bank will not need to create new accounts through this process. Any driver who already has an account with the bank will be identified and flagged as an existing customer, though they remain eligible for all benefits.

Once your account is opened, you will create an ALAT Channel profile. Default credentials will be sent to your registered email address and phone number, which will be required for the initial sign-up on ALAT. We encourage all members to take advantage of this opportunity and streamline their banking experience with Wema Bank. Your financial journey just became easier,” the statement reads.

AUATON is deepening financial access for e-hailing drivers with Wema Bank partnership

The partnership represents the latest development in the union’s drive to provide some form of financial recourse to drivers amid dwindling revenues. In December, the union launched an LED car roof advertising scheme for e-hailing drivers and fleet owners in the state.

The chairman of the council, Comrade Jaiyesimi Azeez, while disclosing this in a chat with Technext at the time, explained that the cars of participating drivers will be fitted with sleek, high-tech LCD roof displays.

The displays will carry advertisements and brand campaigns by various organisations and companies. And, drivers will be required to drive around the city with the displays.

According to the chairman, the purpose of the advert scheme is to enable drivers to maximise their earning opportunities, earn additional passive income and increase their savings, especially as they head into the busy and financially demanding Yuletide season.

Beyond the season, it is also an opportunity for drivers to achieve financial stability.

The LED car roof advert display is giving car owners the unique opportunity to turn their vehicles into income-generating assets. By allowing their cars to be fitted with an LCD roof branding display, they can earn between ₦70,000 and ₦150,000 monthly, all while driving their usual routes,” the chairman said.

Drivers have continued to bear the brunt of dwindling revenues occasioned by the harsh economy and low fare rates. As such, they require schemes to improve their earnings, with many adopting the car-branding schemes.

Beyond constantly demanding improved welfare from e-hailing companies, the union appears keen on playing its part in ensuring that drivers can earn more. It remains to be seen how far they go.

CME Group to launch Solana and XRP futures options in October

CME Group to launch Solana and XRP futures options in October

The post CME Group to launch Solana and XRP futures options in October appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. CME Group is preparing to launch options on SOL and XRP futures next month, giving traders new ways to manage exposure to the two assets.  The contracts are set to go live on October 13, pending regulatory approval, and will come in both standard and micro sizes with expiries offered daily, monthly and quarterly. The new listings mark a major step for CME, which first brought bitcoin futures to market in 2017 and added ether contracts in 2021. Solana and XRP futures have quickly gained traction since their debut earlier this year. CME says more than 540,000 Solana contracts (worth about $22.3 billion), and 370,000 XRP contracts (worth $16.2 billion), have already been traded. Both products hit record trading activity and open interest in August. Market makers including Cumberland and FalconX plan to support the new contracts, arguing that institutional investors want hedging tools beyond bitcoin and ether. CME’s move also highlights the growing demand for regulated ways to access a broader set of digital assets. The launch, which still needs the green light from regulators, follows the end of XRP’s years-long legal fight with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. A federal court ruling in 2023 found that institutional sales of XRP violated securities laws, but programmatic exchange sales did not. The case officially closed in August 2025 after Ripple agreed to pay a $125 million fine, removing one of the biggest uncertainties hanging over the token. This is a developing story.
