Podcaster who fought a white nationalist pastor advises punching more 'bullies'

Days after wrecking controversial right-wing Christian nationalist pastor Doug Wilson live, “Left Hook” podcaster Wajahat Ali directed more Americans to take the fight to white nationalists who are dominating the national discourse.

“These men are the schoolyard bullies. No one ever punches them in the mouth. And once you punch them in the mouth, they have weak knees and weak cankles. That's why I think that video went viral,” Ali told visiting co-host Danielle Moodie. “… There has been a deliberate attempt … from funders, from corporate groups for the past several years … deliberately refuse to call it ‘Christian nationalism’ or ‘white Christian nationalism.’ We've been begging them. They say, ‘no, no, no, we'll call it religious nationalism because we don't want to offend white people or Christians. They're the mainstream.’ And you're like, ‘but it's Christian nationalism.’”

Wilson, co-founder of the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches, the denomination shared by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Monday night and got ruined by Ali in an exchange that abruptly became a social media sensation.

“I have no problem attacking wolves in sheep’s clothing,” Ali announced to a panel that included Morgan and Wilson, as well as Bulwark podcaster Tim Miller, “… or attacking a man who wrote that slavery was mutually harmonious between the slave master and the slave. That’s you. I have no problem attacking the man who proudly says he want to do away with the 19^th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote … or attacking a man like yourself who sits here and incoherently supports an unwinnable illegal war in Iran.”

“I also have no problem attacking a man who’s the religious leader of Pete Hegseth a cosplay crusader,” Ali continued. “…. I wish you would be a better Christian. I wish you would open up the Bible. I wish you would meet the Jesus … that took care of the sick, that took care of the poor, that welcomed the immigrant that welcomed the marginalized, but instead you view Jesus as a mascot for … your white Christian supremacy, your cruelty, your misogyny and I’m so glad that people are finally waking up to your cruelty and to the idiocy of your star disciple Pete Hegseth who keeps messing up [the Bible] … and quotes Pulp Fiction. Maybe you can sit with him and maybe both of you can read the Constitution, read the Bible, and just take a break, pastor.”

After the punishing monologue, Jones replied: “… Just incidentally, we know Jesus was not a socialist because he could actually feed people.”

His so-called comeback was followed by a good seven second pause from the panel as the comment fell flat.

“Wonderful. Great response,” Ali eventually snapped.

But Ali told Moodie that he recommended reclaiming religious language from white Christina nationalists.

“You reclaim Jesus, you reclaim the Bible, and you use it as a weapon against them. And they have nothing. And then once you do that, you actually then inspire a lot of people who are lapsed or … have left religion or they actually are religious,” Ali said.
