MANILA, Philippines – The low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is affecting the Visayas and nearly the entire Southern Luzon on Tuesday, June 30.

As of 3 am on Tuesday, the LPA was located over the coastal waters of San Pascual, Masbate.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours, either while crossing landmass or when it has already emerged over the West Philippine Sea.

If it becomes a tropical depression, it would be given the local name Henry, and tropical cyclone wind signals would be raised immediately given the weather disturbance’s proximity to land.

On Tuesday, the LPA is bringing scattered rain and thunderstorms to the Visayas, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon. Flash floods and landslides are possible.

Similar conditions are also expected in Palawan, but due to the southwest monsoon or habagat.

The rest of the country, not affected by either the LPA or the southwest monsoon, may just see localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA’s three-day rainfall outlook shows these provinces could be most affected by the LPA or potential tropical cyclone:

Tuesday, June 30

  • Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 millimeters): Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz

Wednesday, July 1

  • Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm): Palawan, Occidental Mindoro

Thursday, July 2

  • Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm): Palawan

On Monday, June 29, the LPA triggered moderate to heavy rain in parts of Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Mimaropa.

PAGASA had announced the start of the rainy season last June 4. – Rappler.com

CME Group to launch Solana and XRP futures options in October

The post CME Group to launch Solana and XRP futures options in October appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. CME Group is preparing to launch options on SOL and XRP futures next month, giving traders new ways to manage exposure to the two assets.  The contracts are set to go live on October 13, pending regulatory approval, and will come in both standard and micro sizes with expiries offered daily, monthly and quarterly. The new listings mark a major step for CME, which first brought bitcoin futures to market in 2017 and added ether contracts in 2021. Solana and XRP futures have quickly gained traction since their debut earlier this year. CME says more than 540,000 Solana contracts (worth about $22.3 billion), and 370,000 XRP contracts (worth $16.2 billion), have already been traded. Both products hit record trading activity and open interest in August. Market makers including Cumberland and FalconX plan to support the new contracts, arguing that institutional investors want hedging tools beyond bitcoin and ether. CME’s move also highlights the growing demand for regulated ways to access a broader set of digital assets. The launch, which still needs the green light from regulators, follows the end of XRP’s years-long legal fight with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. A federal court ruling in 2023 found that institutional sales of XRP violated securities laws, but programmatic exchange sales did not. The case officially closed in August 2025 after Ripple agreed to pay a $125 million fine, removing one of the biggest uncertainties hanging over the token. This is a developing story.
