Nigerian artists generated over ₦60 billion in revenue from Spotify alone in 2025, marking a massive 140% increase over the last two years, according to the streaming platform’s annual Loud & Clear report released on Sunday.

The figures reflect both the growing global appeal of Nigerian music and the increasing economic opportunity for artists across the market.

In 2025, Nigerian artists generated 30.3 billion streams and 1.6 billion listening hours on Spotify alone, while being discovered by first-time listeners more than 1.3 billion times, a 26% increase compared to 2024.

In Nigeria, local music remains the dominant force in listening habits. In 2025, Nigerian artists contributed more than 80% of the tracks featured on Spotify Nigeria’s Daily Top 50, highlighting the significant influence of homegrown talent on the nation’s music culture.

Additionally, local consumption of Nigerian artists on Spotify increased by 170% year-on-year.

Independent artists are driving the numbers

One of the most notable findings is the significant role of independent artists and labels in Nigeria’s music economy. In 2025, approximately 58% of all royalties generated by Nigerian artists on Spotify came from independent artists or labels.

This underscores how Nigerian creators are successfully building sustainable careers outside of traditional major label structures.

There was a 55% year-on-year increase in local streams of Nigerian female artists, while local streams of Nigerian indie artists saw a 75% year-on-year growth, indicating that expansion is occurring across various market segments.

“Nigeria’s music story continues to be one of creativity, innovation, and global cultural influence,” said Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, managing director of Spotify in Africa.

“What we’re seeing is a market where talent is not only reaching new audiences around the world, but also building deeper connections at home.” She added.

Spotify’s editorial ecosystem continued to support artist discovery and amplification. In 2025, nearly 2,000 Nigerian artists were added to editorial playlists on Spotify, a significant increase in visibility that often translates into revenue growth.

Beyond editorial support, Nigerian music resonated strongly with listeners worldwide. Nigerian artists were featured in nearly 320 million user playlists globally and over 12 million user playlists in Nigeria.

In total, more than 60 million playlists featuring Nigerian artists were created on Spotify alone in 2025.

Data shows diversification in music tastes

The data shows that Nigeria’s listening culture is expanding. In the past five years, genres like pop urbaine, alternative pop, anime, emo, and drill have grown significantly on Spotify, showcasing a diverse music scene beyond traditional Afrobeats.

The ₦60 billion figure is just from Spotify, so Nigerian artists probably earned even more when considering other platforms like Apple Music, YouTube Music, Boomplay, and Audiomack, as well as physical sales, licensing, and live shows.

The latest data reflects a music ecosystem that is expanding rapidly, deepening its local impact, and continuing to travel globally, confirming Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s most vibrant and economically valuable music markets.

200,000,000 XRP out in 2 Weeks: What’s Going On?

The post 200,000,000 XRP out in 2 Weeks: What’s Going On? appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. In the last 14 days, wallets with between 1,000,000 and 10,000,000 XRP have reduced their holdings by around 200,000,000 tokens. This change, displayed by Santiment data, suggests that some of these holders are leaving the mid-level group, reducing their combined holdings to around 6.74 billion XRP.  They are not small retail accounts, but they also do not match the scale of the very largest XRP players.  Such movements usually matter because of the amount of supply in control, which can influence short-term trends. Of late, these whales have clearly been reducing their holdings. The XRP price has been trending down while XRP has been levitating close to $3, bouncing between $2.90 and $3.30, without going in a clear direction.  The fact that these wallets are selling could be one of the reasons why the token has struggled to increase in value, even though the general crypto market has had a mix of positive and negative days. Why do XRP whales sell? One possibility is that these holders are simply taking profit after XRP’s climb earlier in the summer.  Another reason is caution: with the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision coming up and money availability across markets looking uncertain, some investors may prefer to derisk their exposure now instead of holding amid price chaos. It is important to know that not all of these tokens have been moved to cold storage.  The number of XRP going into exchanges has gone up, which suggests that some of the 200 million XRP has been sent to trading platforms. This means that some of the selling pressure could be transferred to the open market if those tokens are moved directly there. Source: https://u.today/200000000-xrp-out-in-2-weeks-whats-going-on
