For traders outside the European Union, United Kingdom and United States, MEXC is our top pick among the OKX alternatives in this comparison, on two verified numbers: 0.0000% spot maker fees against OKX's 0.08%, and the highest count of new perpetual listings of any major exchange between January 2025 and April 2026.

Key Takeaways
  • Within this comparison, MEXC is our top pick on cost and listing pace for traders outside the EU, UK and US.
  • MEXC does not serve the United States, United Kingdom or Canada, and is not MiCA-authorised in the EEA, so readers there should use a locally licensed platform.
  • OKX charges 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker on spot at its entry tier, against 0.0000% maker and 0.0500% taker at MEXC.
  • On $500,000 a month of spot maker volume plus the same in BTC perpetual taker notional, one year costs $1,200 at MEXC against $7,800 at OKX.
  • CoinGecko counted 879 new perpetual contracts on MEXC between January 2025 and April 2026, ahead of BingX at 565 and the most of any major exchange.
  • OKX keeps a clear lead on options, portfolio margin and EEA licensing, which are reasons to stay rather than switch.

Why Traders Look for OKX Alternatives

OKX is a complete exchange, and most people who search for an alternative are not unhappy with it in general.
They are unhappy with one specific thing, and it is almost always one of four.
The first is where they live, because OKX rebuilt its regulatory position across 2025 and that rebuild changed which products reach which countries.
The second is what it costs to keep an order on the book, which is arithmetic rather than opinion and is where this comparison starts.
The third is listing pace, which matters if your strategy depends on being early rather than on being right.
The fourth is a preference for a plain order book over an exchange that runs a self-custodial wallet under the same brand.
The next section answers the second and third of those directly, because they are the two where a switch produces a number you can check.
The regulatory background sits further down, under what changed at OKX, and it is context rather than a reason to leave.

MEXC: The Lower-Cost, Faster-Listing Alternative

If you left OKX over cost or timing, this section is the one that matters, so it carries the most detail in this article.
The pain is familiar to anyone running a high-frequency book on a mid-cap or newly listed token.
You place limit orders all day to avoid the taker fee, and you still pay on every fill, because most exchanges charge makers too.
Then the token you actually wanted appeared somewhere else first, and by the time your venue listed it the move was over.

What it costs to be a maker on each platform

MEXC's answer to the first half of that problem is a zero maker rate published as the standard schedule rather than as a campaign.
Its official fee page, captured August 31, 2026, shows spot at 0.0000% maker with taker running from 0.0000% to 0.0500% depending on the pair.
BTC/USDT, ETH/USDT, SOL/USDT, PEPE/USDT and ADA/USDT all sit at 0.0000% maker and 0.0500% taker, and XRP/USDT carries a zero-fee label on both sides.
OKX at its entry tier charges 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker, per the worked BTC/USDT example in its own trading fee documentation.
The maker rate is the one that compounds, because a resting order is the order type an active trader places most often.
Now the arithmetic, on a workload that a serious retail trader can plausibly run.
Say you place 500,000 dollars a month of resting spot volume and also run 500,000 dollars a month of notional through BTC perpetuals as a taker.
At OKX, the spot maker side bills 0.08% of six million dollars a year, which is 4,800 dollars, and the futures side bills 0.05%, which is 3,000 dollars.
That is 7,800 dollars a year.
At MEXC, the spot maker side bills nothing, and the BTCUSDT perpetual carries a Special Rate of 0.000% maker and 0.020% taker, which bills 1,200 dollars.
The gap is 6,600 dollars a year on identical activity.

Futures: cheaper on the pairs most people trade, not on all of them

One honest boundary belongs next to that number.
MEXC's futures schedule is a range, not a single rate: the fee page shows 0.000% to 0.040% maker and 0.000% to 0.100% taker across contracts.
The pairs most people trade sit at the bottom of that range, and several perpetuals including SOLUSDT, XRPUSDT and SILVER(XAG)USDT are labelled zero fees on both sides.
But the top of MEXC's futures range is above OKX's flat 0.02% and 0.05%, so check the specific contract before you size a strategy around it.

Listing pace, measured by third parties rather than claimed

The second half of the problem is timing, and here the useful evidence comes from outside both companies.
Reuters measured how long the ten largest exchanges took to list the four biggest meme coins launched since 2022, and the answer was an average of 129 days.
For TRUMP in January 2025 the same ten venues averaged four days, and eight of them were live within 48 hours.
MEXC listed TRUMP on spot two hours and 20 minutes after its initial on-chain liquidity injection, per TokenInsight's March 2025 analysis.
Speed carries a trade-off, and the same Reuters analysis says so.
MEXC's chief operating officer told Reuters that TRUMP's concentrated token supply fell short of the bar for a full main-board listing, and that unusually strong demand drove the faster decision.
OKX completed its own TRUMP listing decision within 26 hours, which is fast by any reasonable standard and worth stating plainly.
Across a longer window the cadence separates further.
CoinGecko's 2026 perpetuals report counted 879 new perpetual contracts listed by MEXC between January 2025 and April 2026, roughly 55 a month and the most of any major centralised exchange, while six of the top eleven venues listed fewer than 20 a month.
MEXC's fee page listed over 2,070 spot trading pairs and over 1,020 USDT-M perpetual pairs when we counted its published pair tables on August 31, 2026.
Our full listing-speed comparison sets out the method behind those figures, and the public listing calendar carries timestamps you can audit yourself.
Being listed a day earlier costs nothing extra.

Where MEXC is not the answer

These limits are real and they are not footnotes.
MEXC does not serve residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or Canada, which are named as prohibited jurisdictions in its User Agreement and set out in our restricted countries guide.
MEXC is not authorised as a crypto-asset service provider under the EU's MiCA regulation and does not appear on the ESMA register of authorised providers.
The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets published a warning on September 24, 2025 stating that MEXC provides crypto-asset services in the Netherlands without the required licence, and the underlying decision is dated September 16, 2025 in the ESMA register.
Readers in the EU or EEA should choose a platform that appears on the ESMA register of authorised providers, and OKX is one of them.
MEXC also carries a lighter top-tier licensing footprint than US or EU regulated venues, which our security review covers in full.

8 OKX Alternatives Compared: Every Fee, Source and Date

Six dimensions decide this choice, and the table below holds all of them.
We picked these six because they are what actually changes the outcome of a switch: what a round trip costs on each book, whether the asset you want is listed while it still matters, whether you are allowed on the platform, and whether the fee schedule can be read by anyone or only by an account holder.

Data verified as of August 31, 2026 against each platform's official fee schedule, help centre and terms, except where a July 28, 2026 verification date is shown. Entry retail tiers only; VIP levels, token discounts and time-limited campaigns can lower effective rates. Availability reflects each platform's published terms, so confirm for your own region before opening an account.
One row deserves a note, because it is a finding rather than a fee.
Of the platforms we checked directly for this comparison, MEXC, OKX and Kraken all publish a complete fee schedule that anyone can read without an account.
Coinbase does not, and Bankrate reported that its pricing is now shown behind a login or immediately before a trade rather than on an open page.
Several third-party review pages we checked while researching this article carried entry-tier figures for Kraken that did not match the 0.40% and 0.80% on Kraken's own schedule.
Check the schedule for your own account and pair before you commit to any of these numbers, including ours.

The MEXC View

We should say plainly who wrote this.
MEXC publishes this article, and MEXC is one of the eight platforms it compares, so you are reading a comparison produced by a participant in it.
That is a reason to check our numbers, and every one of them carries a source and a date so that you can.
Here is what we think the data actually supports, including the parts that do not favour us.
We do not win on derivatives depth.
OKX runs a real options book and a unified account with portfolio margin, and we do not offer an equivalent.
A trader running multi-leg structures gets genuine capital efficiency there that no amount of fee saving replaces.
We do not win on licensing.
OKX holds a MiCA authorisation and operates a US platform, Kraken holds authorisations across the US, UK and EEA, and Coinbase is a US public company.
We are none of those things, and readers for whom licensing is the deciding factor should not choose us.
We also think Kraken deserves credit on a point that has nothing to do with fees.
Its entry-tier spot schedule of 0.40% and 0.80% is the most expensive in this comparison, and Kraken publishes that schedule openly where anyone can read it and check any third-party figure against it.
That is the behaviour we want to see more of, and it is the reason our comparison table carries a source and a verification date in every row.
What we do claim is narrow and checkable.
On spot maker fees we charge nothing while OKX charges 0.08%, and on measured listing cadence a third party counted more new perpetual contracts on our platform than on any other major exchange over a 16-month window.
Those two facts are why we called ourselves the top pick for traders outside the EU, UK and US, and they are the only two grounds on which we made that call.
If the thing that matters to you is anything else on this page, the honest answer is one of the other seven names.

What Changed at OKX in 2025 and 2026

This is background rather than a reason to switch, and it explains why the same exchange behaves differently depending on where you open the app.
On February 24, 2025, Aux Cayes FinTech Co Ltd, the entity operating OKX, pleaded guilty to running an unlicensed money transmitting business in the United States and agreed to an 84.4 million dollar fine plus a 420.3 million dollar forfeiture, as reported by Finance Magnates.
The settlement covered conduct from 2018 to early 2024 and requires an external compliance consultant through February 2027.
On March 17, 2025, OKX suspended its Web3 DEX aggregator, saying it had detected a coordinated effort by the Lazarus group to misuse its DeFi services and had made the decision after consulting regulators.
Contemporaneous reporting tied the suspension to laundering of funds from the Bybit hack and to European regulatory scrutiny of the Web3 product.
OKX said its wallet functions stayed live, though new wallet creation was paused in selected markets during the upgrade.
Reporting at the time did not describe any impact on custodial exchange balances.
It does illustrate a trade-off worth naming: when the on-chain layer and the exchange share a brand, a problem in one can produce product changes in the other.
Some traders want that integration.
Others want a plain order book and a separate wallet they control themselves, and that preference alone is enough to send someone looking.

The 7 Other OKX Alternatives, Judged One by One

Binance

For DOGE, SHIB, BTC and ETH at size, Binance's order books remain the deepest in the market.
Benefits
  • Established assets trade with tight spreads and high order-book depth, which matters more than fees once your order size moves the market.
  • Futures pricing at 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker matches the group standard.
  • Broad fiat rails and mature infrastructure across most non-restricted markets.
Limitations
  • Spot base fee of 0.10% is double MEXC's taker rate and higher than OKX's maker rate.
  • Selective and slower on early-stage tokens, by design.
  • The global platform does not serve US residents, and its European availability has been reshaped by MiCA.

Bybit

Bybit is the closest like-for-like swap for a perpetuals trader leaving OKX.
Benefits
Limitations
  • Futures taker of 0.055% sits above every flat rate here except Bitget's.
  • Spot costs 0.10% on both sides, so limit orders save you nothing.
  • Does not serve US residents.

Bitget

Copy trading is the actual product here, spanning spot, futures and bots.
Benefits
Limitations
  • Futures taker of 0.06% is the highest of the flat published rates in this group.
  • Spot base fee of 0.10% on both sides.
  • Listing cadence measured behind MEXC and Gate in TokenInsight's tracked period.

Gate

Gate's reputation is breadth, and browsing its markets page is a discovery method in its own right.
Benefits
  • Wide long-tail coverage and a high listing cadence.
  • Broad product surface across perpetuals, bots and earn products.
  • Competitive futures pricing at 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker.
Limitations
  • Spot base fee of 0.20% at VIP0 is the highest of the crypto-native venues here, four times MEXC's taker rate.
  • Gate's own pages have published different base figures in different places, so confirm your actual tier first.
  • Does not serve US residents.

Kraken

Kraken is the licensing-first option, and for US and UK readers it is one of the two names that matter.
Benefits
  • Serves US and UK customers and holds a MiCA authorisation in the EEA, so it covers three regions MEXC does not.
  • Operating since 2013 with no major public exchange breach on record.
  • Futures pricing at 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker matches the group standard.
Limitations
  • Kraken Pro entry tier of 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker is the most expensive spot schedule in this comparison by a wide margin.
  • The simple buy and sell flow adds a 1% fee plus a spread on top.
  • Lists far fewer assets than the crypto-native venues, and futures are unavailable in the US, Canada and New Zealand.

Coinbase

Coinbase is the other name US readers should look at, and its appeal is regulatory rather than economic.
Benefits
  • A US-listed public company subject to SEC reporting requirements.
  • Straightforward fiat rails and a beginner-oriented interface with fewer trading options to navigate.
  • Published listing roadmap gives advance notice of new assets.
Limitations
  • Entry-tier pricing is reported from 0.60% maker and 1.20% taker, the highest in this comparison.
  • The full fee schedule is no longer published on an open page.
  • Asset coverage is narrow compared with the crypto-native venues.

What OKX Still Does Better

Four things, and they are not small.
OKX runs a genuine options book alongside its perpetuals, with maker and taker rates of 0.02% and 0.03%, and it is the deepest options offering among the crypto-native venues we compared.
Its unified account and portfolio margin let a multi-instrument position share collateral, which is a real capital efficiency gain for anyone running spreads or hedges rather than directional trades.
On licensing, OKX Europe Limited has held a MiCA authorisation since January 2025 and can passport across the EEA, and OKX also operates a US platform.
That combination is unusual, and for a reader in Dublin or Denver it settles the question before fees enter it.
OKX also publishes monthly proof-of-reserves using zk-STARK cryptographic verification, which lets any user check their own inclusion without exposing other users' balances.
If any of those four things is why you are on OKX, the honest advice is to stay.

How to Move Your Crypto Off OKX in 3 Steps

Step 1: Check the withdrawal network and the minimum
Confirm that your destination platform supports the exact chain you plan to send on, because USDT on TRC20 and USDT on ERC20 are not interchangeable at the deposit address.
Check the minimum withdrawal amount on the sending side and the minimum deposit amount on the receiving side, since they are set independently and do not always match.
Step 2: Send a small test transfer first
Move a small amount, wait for it to credit, and only then move the rest.
The cost of a test transfer is one network fee, and the cost of skipping it can be the entire balance.
Step 3: Move the balance and keep the records
Save the transaction hashes and the timestamps, because your cost basis and any tax reporting depend on them and exchanges do not always retain full history after an account closes.
Four things cause most failed transfers: the wrong network, a missing memo or destination tag on chains that require one, an amount below the minimum, and a ticker collision where two different tokens share a symbol.
Check the ticker against the contract address, not the name.

Which OKX Alternative Is Right for You?

You trade actively, place resting orders, and you are outside the EU, UK and US.
MEXC is your answer, and the maker side is where the difference shows up.
Open an account and check the live rate on your own pairs before you move size.
You are in the United States or the United Kingdom.
Use a locally licensed venue.
Coinbase and Kraken both serve you.
Readers in the United States have a third option in OKX's separate US platform.
MEXC does not serve either country and nothing in this article should be read as suggesting otherwise.
You are in the EU or EEA.
Use a platform that appears on the ESMA register of authorised crypto-asset service providers.
OKX, Kraken and Bybit's European entity all hold MiCA authorisations.
MEXC does not.
You trade options or run portfolio margin.
Stay on OKX.
No crypto-native alternative in this comparison offers the same combination.
You copy trade.
Bitget's ecosystem is the deepest here.
You trade major assets at institutional size.
Binance's books are still the deepest, and depth beats fee schedules once your order moves the market.
You want breadth for its own sake.
Gate and MEXC both carry long-tail coverage; MEXC is cheaper, Gate has been at it longer.

FAQ

What are the best OKX alternatives in 2026?
MEXC, Binance, Bybit, Bitget and Gate are the closest crypto-native alternatives, while Kraken and Coinbase serve US and UK traders.
Which one fits depends on your region and whether cost or licensing decides it for you.

Who are OKX's main competitors?
Binance, Bybit, MEXC, Bitget and Gate compete with OKX on spot and perpetual futures.
Coinbase and Kraken compete mainly in regulated markets that OKX's global platform does not serve.

Which OKX alternative has the lowest trading fees?
MEXC, at 0.0000% spot maker and 0.0500% taker against OKX's 0.08% and 0.10%, verified August 31, 2026.
Our fee comparison sets out the full working.

Which exchange lists new tokens faster than OKX?
CoinGecko counted 879 new perpetual listings on MEXC between January 2025 and April 2026, the most of any major exchange.
OKX itself was fast on TRUMP, deciding within 26 hours per Reuters.

Is OKX still available in my country?
OKX serves the EEA through a MiCA-authorised entity and the United States through a separate US platform, with product availability differing by region.
Check the terms for your own jurisdiction before opening an account.

Can EU users switch from OKX to MEXC?
No.
MEXC is not authorised under MiCA and does not appear on the ESMA register, so EU and EEA readers should use an authorised provider such as OKX, Kraken or Bybit's European entity.

Can US traders use OKX alternatives?
Yes, but only locally licensed ones.
Coinbase and Kraken serve US residents; MEXC, Binance's global platform, Bybit, Bitget and Gate do not.

How do I move my crypto off OKX?
Confirm the withdrawal network matches your destination, send a small test transfer, then move the balance and save the transaction hashes.
Most failed transfers come from a wrong network or a missing memo tag.

Do I lose my OKX Web3 wallet if I switch exchanges?
No, a self-custodial wallet is controlled by your recovery phrase rather than by your exchange account.
Back up that phrase before closing any account, because losing it means losing the wallet.

Risk and Regulatory Notice

Perpetual futures and leveraged products can lose more than your initial margin, and liquidation can happen faster than you can react.
Newly listed and small-capitalisation tokens carry thin liquidity, and on thin pairs the spread can cost more than every trading fee in this article combined.
Platform availability, fee schedules and product access vary by jurisdiction and change without notice, so verify both against your own account before acting on anything here.
MEXC does not serve residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or Canada, and is not authorised as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA in the European Economic Area.
Nothing in this article is financial advice.
Fee data verified August 31, 2026 against each platform's official fee schedule and help centre, except where a July 28, 2026 date is shown in the comparison table. Listing-speed data: Reuters (July 14, 2025), TokenInsight (March 2025), and CoinGecko's 2026 perpetuals report. Our full scoring method is set out in our review methodology.
